Method for measuring hardness of thermoplastic elastomer TPE material

Generalized TPE includes TPES(TPR) of SEBS substrate, TPU, TPE, TPV, TPO, etc. This paper discusses the most commonly used TPE, namely TPES of SEBS substrate.
This type of TPE has Shore Hardness ShoreA, Shore Hardness ShoreD, Shore Hardness ShoreC (some TPE manufacturers use OO,Q and other hardness units). Among them, Shore A is the most common, Shore C and Shore D are occasionally used.
Shore A hardness is in the range of 0~100A, but generally the measured value is relatively accurate in the range of 30~90A, and the response of 10~30A is also seen, but the hardness measurement is not necessarily very accurate.
Shore hardness C, hardness range 0~100C, but the general hardness is 5~60C, which is used to express TPE with low hardness below 30A.
Shore D hardness ranges from 0 to 100 d. For TPE, TPE with meaningful hardness ranging from 40 to 70 d.90 a is generally expressed by Shore D. The measured value is accurate.
The three hardness units correspond to different test durometers. The main difference among the three durometers is the difference in head shape. The indenter of Shore A durometer is blunt and shaped like a thicker needle. The D indenter of Shore A durometer is actually a pressing needle with sharp end. Shore hardness tester C is to be spit out as a circular arc surface.
